Bad Worm Day

So many days, so few posts. None, actually. A lot half-written, of course, but these comprised almost exclusively complaints and laments about the assorted idiocies that make up the day’s fare in newspapers and on television news channels. Reading has been mainly re-reading, in connection with a project which is, I fondly believe, nearing its end. I look forward to troubling dreams about things that are not textual notes, annotations or punctuation queries.

Walking up through the park today, we see almost a hundred seagulls scattered across the grass on either side of the park. Towards the centre of the gulls on one side of the park, a group of sparrows; towards the rear and again to one side are two loose groups of collared doves. All are feeding, gazing, pecking, circling. Wet weather, the grass fairly recently cut and still rich green. The upshot is: a bad day to be a worm. Scrawled in countless earthy diaries and journals against the date 16th November: Bad Worm Day.
